Midweek Racing Preview: Wednesday 25/5/16

It's another pretty quiet and wet Wednesday of racing, with today's bets coming from the meetings at Balaklava and Ballarat. We have found what we believe to be a pretty safe multi in looking to bounce back from a tough day on Saturday!
Balaklava
The track is rated a Soft (7) at the time of writing but with clearing conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday it will probably be upgraded. The last time there was rain at Balaklava the meeting was called off, so lets hope all is well here. The rail is in the true position.
Race 7 1600m Woodstock Handicap
No age restriction. BenchMark 64. No sex restriction. Handicap.
The pace in this event looks strong enough for Tuscan Fever to be able to settle worse than midfield and run over the top of them. The gelding was in good form in this grade prior to stepping up sharply to BM80/Open grade and performing only moderately. Back to BM64 grade and back to the 1600m, where he is well performed, suits. Jai Mamat takes the ride and 4kg off, so he will carry only 55kg in this event. From barrier 3 it shouldn't be too hard for Mamat to find a nice trail in to the race and present him at the right time.
Freedom Road was a good winner last time out when 3rd up and out to 1550m. She beat a reasonably handy field here and did it in pretty good style. She does go up 3kg in weight in to this event and will carry 2kg more than Tuscan Fever. She's certainly in good form now and stays at the mile which looks to suit and is still on the up.
The other main chance in this event looks to be Rod's Opinion. He was 2nd up and 1200-1600m when victorious in BM70 grade last time out at Murray Bridge. He is a winner at this track and trip in the past but goes up 3kg from his last win and draws 10 which could pose an issue with his racing style.
Summary: Backing Tuscan Fever back in grade and distance and very well in at the weights.
Ballarat
The track is rated a Soft (7) at the time of writing but with decent weather forecast we may get an upgrade. The rail is out +3m from the 800-400m and in the true the remainder.
Race 1 1100m Sportsbet Watch Live Racing On Mobile Maiden Plate
Three-Years-Old and Upwards. Maiden. No sex restriction. Set Weights.
Levitical has had 5 career starts for 4 placings and gets every opportunity to break his Maiden status here. His last two have been solid efforts (2nd both times) on Soft ground, so if we don't get an upgrade it won't worry him. This is his race to lose.
Sumary: Levitical will be short but should just win.
Race 3 1400m Porter Plant 3YO Maiden Plate
Three-Years-Old. Maiden. No sex restriction. Set Weights.
Distant Sky is another runner who just should be breaking it's Maiden here. At his last two at 1400m he was beaten 0.1L to Day Of Rest, who went to Adelaide and won on Saturday, and then ran 2nd to Red Silhouette, who was a good 3rd at Pakenham on Sunday. There looks to be heaps of speed in this event so from barrier 2 Luke Currie will do no work and be able to present this horse at the right time to be winning.
Sumary: Again, Distant Sky will be short but should be winning.
Our Bets
Balaklava

Ballarat
Race 1 - Levitical - 2 unit win
