Racing this Wednesday comes from Strathalbyn, Sandown Lakeside and Canterbury. It looks a handy card at Strathalbyn and the same can be said for Sandown. Canterbury looks a super even card and with the rain affected track we've decided not to be betting there!

Strathalbyn

The track is rated a Good (4) at the time of writing and should stay that way with warm weather forecast for Wednesday. The rail is in the true position. Local trainer Mick Whittle, trainer of 2003 Toorak Handicap winner Roman Arch (as well at 549 other winners) will be remembered today following his passing with race 6 named in his honour.

Race 2 1350m Grosvener Hotel Punters' Club SABOIS Maiden Plate

Two-Years-Old and Upwards. Maiden. No sex restriction. Set Weights.

Speed from The Clash and Organic with Tregorik possibly pushing through from the inside. Cream Of The Crop should be handy from barrier 3.

Cream Of The Crop is a 1st starter from the Tony McEvoy yard and I've gone with it on top here. She trialled nicely behind one that looks very smart and her last 50m of that trail was the most pleasing aspect of it. The 1350m looks suitable for the daughter of New Approach and if she has the ability she appeared to show at her recent trial she should beat this field.

Tregorik was good enough on debut, beaten 1L at this track in a 1200m Maiden, although they ran very slow time and the form out of that race has been ordinary. Sassy Jo may have a case as well. She has been okay at her first two starts.

Strategy: Backing Cream Of The Crop although she looks to have come up short enough in the market. I think she's just better than these.

Race 4 1100m Disability Living Inc. SABOIS Handicap

Three-Years-Old. Class 1. No sex restriction. Handicap.

Omaru Owl led them up on debut and would expect him to go forward again. Windsor Cup, Itz Invincible and Captain Parker all have shown good speed too.

With plenty of speed in this event, I expect Streetcar Illusion to be able to get a good trial in behind the speed and be hard to hold off late. He finished midfield in two strong Maiden's at his first prep before returning from a spell with a good win over 1000m to break his Maiden at Morphettville. At his next start he settled last and ran on okay to finish 3.5L from Viddora/Miss Gunpowder/Burst Away in Open 3 Year Old grade. That trio are very smart. He's come up good each way odds here.

I think the biggest danger to him is clearly the short priced favourite Itz Invincible ($2.80-$1.90 already). He won a 900m Maiden at his first start at Murray Bridge impressively and then went to town and ran a narrow 2nd to Counter Pulse. After a spell he was beaten 1.8L to Evil Dreams in a 3 Year Old BM64. He's 1st up today off a 194 day break. I think although he is clearly talented, he has to carry 60.5kg in a race full of speed and has the bar plates on. With Streetcar Illusion having the benefit of two good runs under his belt already this preparation, there are enough queries with Itz Invincible to take it on, in my opinion.

Strategy: Taking on the favourite and backing Streetcar Illusion each way.

Sandown Lakeside

The track was rated a Good (3) at the time of writing with no rain forecast for Wednesday. The rail is out +9m the entire circuit.

Race 3 1200m thebigscreencompany.com.au Plate

Three-Years-Old. BenchMark 70. Fillies. Handicap.

Tycoon Kate showed speed on debut. Miss Scandilous and Mystic Moon have showed speed and Weather The Storm went forward at her last start.

The only time Weather The Storm has missed a place in her career was when she was 4th beaten 2.4L to Risque at Group 3 level. After that she bumped into Silent Sedition but was good in running 2nd. At her last start she led and won strongly off a 39 day break in a Maiden that looks to have some depth. There is no reason why she can't win again here now she's got the first one out of the way.

Mystic Moon won her first two races this prep in good fashion (beating Weather The Storm in the first of those) and then ran a good 2nd to Manhattan Blues in this company. Following that she went to Adelaide and was outclassed in Open 3 Year Old grade there beaten 3.5L to Miss Gunpowder. She must be a chance here.

Strategy: With Weather The Storm to win again.

Race 8 2100m Le Pine Funeral Handicap

No age restriction. BenchMark 70. No sex restriction. Handicap.

Speed from Ultimate Doom, Wee Frankie and Proclamation. Interesting to see what they do on Crocodile Rock, but Williams' horses like to go forward and Katelyn Mallyon tends to ride a lot of front runners for that stable.

The Bandit got well back in his second Australian run since crossing from Japan and unleashed a blistering last 300m to beat Grand Dreamer over 1800m on the Hillside track in BM70 grade. That horse has since franked that form. John Sadler said prior to his last run he wanted further than 1800m but had to stay at that distance purely because of how the program was set up. He gets out to 2100m today and looks very hard to beat.

Surging Wave was 6th to subsequent Stakes winner Howard Be Thy Name over 1600m 1st up and then led before running 3rd beaten 0.6L over 2200m at Pakenham on the Synthetic track.

San Padre ran 6th in a VRC Derby as a 3 Year Old and then went for a spell. After a spell he was 8th in the Group 2 Autumn Classic over 1800m. He's had two sound trials in preparation for this but it would pay to watch him here.

Crocodile Rock only had two European starts before being bought by Lloyd Williams. One of them was an 1800m Maiden win. He's in the market and it would pay to watch any market moves for him here. He's by Galileo so the trip shouldn't be an issue.

Western Kingdom was 3rd up when he won a BM64 on the Synthetic at Pakenham last time over 2200m and is a chance again here.

Strategy: Really liked The Bandit's win two back and he is a good chance to win again here out to 2100m.
